Sailing Programs

The Community Sailing Program

• The Community Sailing Program (CSP)(no membership) is the LBYC’s embodiment of programs for instruction, training and membership growth.
• CSP is not a club or a corporation, it is the community outreach arm of the LBYC and is specifically organized and run to increase membership, build a local sailing community and be able to receive funds from 501 (c)(3) organizations. The Operational Guidelines and Sailing Program Handbook of the CSP will reflect its limited use and compliance with moneys received by said organizations.
• The main objectives of the CSP are: water and boating safety, membership growth, promotion and support of local education and training to foster the national and international sport of sailing and to develop the local interest in boating.

Program Director and LBYC Lead Instructor: Mitchell D Walker
The LBYC from time to time will sponsor sailing classes, courses and opportunities. The CSP as the LBYC’s community outreach program will manage these classes. Check the LBYC calendar for dates, time,  locations and price. CSP classes and courses are available to the general public.  The CSP will also certify those wishing to use LBYC leased or owned boats for safety and competency.

Laser and Club 420

The Laser is currently used in the US Olympics as a one-person boat for both the men and women sports.  Men utilize the “Full Rig” and Women & youth utilize the “Radial or 4.7 Rig”. You could also sail with two  small youth on the boat. Club 420s are currently used in both High School and College sailing programs nationwide. These are two-person boats, but could carry up to three small youth or one adult and a  youth.

The Laser Performance and Club 420 Board boats are a blast to sail all year round on our Texas Lakes.  For late fall and winter sailing, you will need a full lightweight wet suit, neoprene winter gloves, and zip-up water socks.  Enjoy many spring and summer days of sailing on a small boat with your friends.  Currently, the LBYC has 2 Club 420s which are well equipped Collegiate and High School double-handed racing boats.  These boats come with a Mainsail, Jib, and Spinnaker.  There is plenty of room for 2 smaller adults or 1 adult and 1 youth or 2-3 young youth.  Our 4 Performance Lasers are an Olympic Class single-handed one-design boats that are easy to rig and sail.  You will enjoy a day of comradery with your sailing friends on the lake running between permanent buoys located in front of the Dead Fish Grill and throughout the main sailing basin of Lake Belton.
