Often called dinghies or ‘board boats’ due to the presence of a centerboard. The club’s small sailboats are stored on land, and they can be taken to the waterside and assembled there on the shore for sailing off and back on to the beach. After a sailing session they are disassembled and returned to storage. This is different from the larger ‘keel boats’ which can typically be left on the water with the mast erected and some or all of the sails attached.
There are four Lasers and two Club 420 sailboats. Lasers are one-person racing sailboats (can hold two in a pinch) about 14 feet long with one sail. The Club 420’s are about 15 feet long, also are high-performance racing boats, and have two sails. A crew person sits in the front and handles the jib, the skipper sits in the rear and operates the mainsail and the tiller.
